             "Religion is our ancient heritage of ideas concerning the origin of all living things and the meaning of life"(Spencer, 25). Religion has been around since the beginning of man. The word religion has a different meaning to different cultures. Some believe that it is a type of control and traditions passed from generation to generation. Others see it as an inspiration and emotions or rituals and worship (52). Most people use some sort of religion. It is what gives people hope and a sense of justice. Religion helps people not to fear death or gives them a sense of comfort when they lose a loved one. Most religions have a Bible that they follow. A Bible gives them rules and teaches them about their God or gods; this book is to be obeyed and followed throughout one's life. Religion has been around since the beginning of man and has given us answers to many unknown questions. But religion was made by man therefore there is room for mistakes and exaggeration, that is why!
             "The origin of religion has often been largely a matter of guesswork" (Spencer, 67). By the time of Jesus man had already attained a very high form of religion so before Christ there must have been a gradual evolution of religion up to higher forms. Next we must assume that lower religion forms must have been from the Stone Age era that was untouched by modern civilization. Through art man knows that religion or certain beliefs had existed since the first human. These tribes were most likely scared of spirits and of dark jungles so they relied on witchdoctors to practice magic. They had fertility dolls and dances so their crops would grow or they would find food. They also believed that our souls hovered around for a time and then were reincarnated (68). From that we can guess the gods came next. The Greeks and Romans believed their where different gods that had different powers.
