There has been a constant increase in the amount of school violence in recent years. Beginning with the shootings at Columbine High School there has been great emphasis placed on protecting students from another event like this. Unfortunately, Columbine seems to have been only the beginning; there have been a number of school shootings recently. The main question to be answered is what to do about this increase in school violence. Some schools have implemented the zero-tolerance policy and yet some others believe in a less harsh method. The zero-tolerance policy makes precise and harsh consequences for anyone planning, saying, or writing about a shooting or killing. The zero-tolerance policy as well as other methods of preventing violence can work to prevent future school violence from occurring if it is followed strictly and enforced in every school around the country.              There is definitely a problem with school violence today. In the last three years violence in our schools is becoming more common. The violence may be with guns, knives, or just a simple fight, but school violence is increasing greatly. There have been several school shootings in the last few years, and the number of school shootings is growing rapidly. It was found that more then 2,000 weapons were stashed by students in lockers, backpacks and pockets during the 1996-97 school year. Parents are beginning to wonder if their children are really are safe at school anymore because of these school shooting and the findings of all these weapons. Parents are beginning to worry about their children and this should make everyone realize that there is far too much violence at school. School violence is a big and growing issue in today's society and the problem seems to be getting worse every year.
