             Capital punishment is a very controversial topic because of all the different perspectives it could be viewed by. The use of capital punishment has been a permanent fixture in our society since early civilization. It has been used for various crimes ranging from the desertion of soldiers during wartime to the more cruel crimes of serial killers. The main focus on our society has always been "Let the punishment fit the crime", to most people this means that if a person has committed a crime that involved killing someone else then he too should be killed. That mindset has somewhat been changed because there are not as many people being sentenced to death and now there are specific guidelines that have to be met before a person can be sentenced to death. However, this is still a problem in our society. Capital punishment does not seem like the best way to deter violent crimes and the courts should decide on alternative methods of punishment for serious types of offences, ho!
             wever if you look at this from the political view it may seem like the right thing to do for various reasons including overcrowding of the jails. Another reason may be as a show of great authority on the government's behalf. They try to show other potential murderers what will happen to them if they commit a similar crime. Murder is defined as the killing of an individual intentionally and unlawfully. With every murder there is something that triggered the uncontrollable anger in the offender, and therefore Capital punishment is also murder, because the murder of a convict is allowed because society got aggravated.
             While doing this term paper I will be utilizing some of my criminal justice text books which will give me some insight as to the statistical information on capital punishment.
