"Leadership is a Phenomenon widely studies but seldom understood". There are several reasons for inquiring into the study of leadership. Theories of leadership are based on generalizations, experiments, and extensive research. The purpose of this study is twofold. First this study will examine various communication and leadership theories. Second it will show the correlation of these theories.I enrolled in the course SPC 4445: Corporate Communication and Leadership Dynamics lectured by Professor B. Schriner. He was certainly a great professor, as he made learning fun and the material easy to understand. Task related roles include: · The initiator: defines the problem, establishes agenda and procedure, and proposes innovative strategies and solutions in times of difficulty. Leader-Member RelationsA leader builds a relationship with his or her followers through interaction. The leader takes charge under the assumption that the group does not know better or will fail. Transformational leaders transform both themselves and their followers by envisioning bold new possibilities for the utilization of human and material resources. The (1,9) leader seeks to establish a supportive, friendly environment. Blake and McCanse's Leadership GridIn this approach to leadership communication style, Robert Blake and Anne Adam McCanse identified communication styles based on the degree of concern for production and concern for people. Participative leadership: communication designed to solicit opinions and ides form followers for the purpose of involving followers in decision making. Supportive Leadership: interpersonal communication focusing on concerns for the needs and well being of followers and the facilitation of a desirable climate for interaction. Transformational leaders provide individualized consideration, intellectual stimulation and posses charisma. Vocalics deals with how one's rate, tone, volume pitch could affect communication. · The recognition-seeker: relates personal accomplishments to the group, claims to be more expert and knowledgeable than other group members on virtually every topic. The two approaches were labeled Theory X and Theory. Situations in which tasks are unstructured and behavior expectations are ambiguous are good opportunities for participating in decision making allows followers to think critically about expected behavior and task performance. (9,9) Team ManagementTeam leadership involves a high concern for both production and people. In these situations, it is very difficult for leaders to determine the best method of task completion and evaluations of performance are extremely difficult to make.
