adolescents making sexual choices
I was at a friend's house the other night with several friends and it was a somewhat unusual setting for me because there were a lot more girls than guys. Actually there were seven girls, I, and one other guy. Late in the night one of the girls stated that she wanted to leave to go stay the night with a guy that was a friend of everyone there. He is a good guy but she did not know if she should go since it was so late and asked for advice from her friends. All of a sudden the conversation turned from whether she should go and stay the night with him to whether she should go and have sex with him or not go at all. I had nothing to add to this discussion because I was shocked. I could not believe that these women were talking just like men. In fact, one of the girls there said, "Your thinking like a girl. Think like a man now go over there and give it to him!" Her reasoning was that it is wrong to just hook up with some random guy but if you! know the guy and he is a nice then it is all right. But daughters are thought of as more frail and sweet and they are more protective of them. I interviewed four males and six females that attend ECU and found that through high school family and friends are the biggest contributors to how adolescents make sexual choices. But even after an adolescents first time having sex their friends still play a major role in their sexual choices. I think that this would make them more open to sexual experiences and condone sexual activity. I remember feeling like a boy because I had not had sex yet but then when I did have sex the feeling of being a man left very shortly. She also did not date much in high school because of fear of temptation. This is more proof that their peers heighten adolescent's sexual choices. And to me it is really an adolescent's friend that does it. Also seeing something bad happen to a brother or sister can affect how an adolescent makes his or her sexual choices. Even though they really did feel love with them they still did it to "kind of" prove their love, despite the fear. ds that persuaded her to go have sex that night because not one girl in the room said for her to stay. I asked each girl the same question and they responded quite differently, like, "Where did you two go. None of the men I talked to say their parents were too controlling but some said that they got more leniency than their sisters did. I and every guy I talked to say that it was not the feeling they thought it would be. It is probably because men do not have to worry about getting pregnant or raped.
