Moved by a Queen
As a senior in high school, I was assigned to read a speech by Queen Elizabeth I of England. Having "senioritis," I had no desire to get into any piece of writing. Much to my surprise, I was very impressed with how much her speech moved me. Queen Elizabeth I used diction, imagery, and sentence structure to create a dynamic speech in order to convince her troops of England to believe in their self, fight from their heart, and have determination to successfully protect their country from the invasion of Spain. The diction Queen Elizabeth I chose helped move her soldiers emotionally. She begins by saying, "My loving people." Addressing the troops in such a personal manner helped her to gain their goodwill.
