             One of the most powerful and deadliest forms of cancer is lung cancer. What would the world be like today if this disease did not exist? Maybe it would be overcrowded but one thing is for sure a lot of people would be out of jobs and looking everywhere for money and jobs. Not all the effects of lung cancer are bad; some of these effects provide an opportunity for others. Lung cancer has many frightening statistics, risks, forms that one can develop, and treatments that one might not know about.
             An average of 157,000 men and women die in one year in America from a single form of cancer, called lung cancer (2001 Encyclopedia Encarta). Lung cancer is described as a ma-lignancy of the lungs and most of the time forms in the lining of the bronchia. Although sometimes it may begin in the trachea, bronchioles, or the alveolus these are not as likely as in the bronchia. No symptoms will be apparent at first, but the victim will begin to develop a cough, hoarseness, coughing up blood or rust colored sputum just to name a few things. Lung tumors may be detected, though, in chest x-rays, as well as in cat scans. To determine if the tumor is cancerous a needle biopsy is needed. Lung cancer spreads through the blood stream, but it does not always spread. If the cancer multiplies, there is a five-year survival rate of 14%, and 46% have a five-year survival rate if it doesn't spread (Penn State University Edu-cation Center). Only 15% of patients are diagnosed in early stag!
