Ballyhoo
On November 29th , in Karl C. Bruder Theater I watched "The Last Night of Ballyhoo". I thought that it was an overall pretty good play, although there were parts that kind of dragged on. I liked the effect that was presented by the cast even though there was only seven of them. The play started off really slowly before growing into something that was able to keep my attention. Since there was only seven participating cast members the way the acting, scenery, and the directing came together to make a solid play was amazing. Each of these elements played a major role in the final out come of the play. The plot of the play wasn't to dramatic. It was just two simple problems, Who is Joe going to ask to Ballyhoo, and Is Lala going to get a date. Other than that I really didn't get anything else out of it. I know they kept mentioning something about being Jewish, but I didn't think that played that big of a role in this play. Yes they did get into a fight or two about it but I think that was half of the problems in the play, I think that was there to cover up how they each really felt about each other. It seemed like to me that if something went wrong then everybody in the play blamed it on the f
The plot was more individual from person to person than against each other. They were able to portray many situations with different areas of the same scenery. After watching this play and realizing what it takes to put a finished play together, I think that this was a very unified work of art. That always help to understand the play and what is going on. The director did a very good job in creating appropriate pictures for this play. They used the stage very well, and the use of body to help present an effect of what type of people they are. I think depending on what a person was interested in I would recommend this production to others. I liked it and it did give me a different perspective and point of view from a problem that everybody knows existed. They presented a couple of very believable scenes, like when they were on the trains. Other than the fact that it could maybe have picked up a little bit earlier in the play, the rhythm of the play was pretty decent. I think that the director did have a sense of focus for the story, it went kind of slow but he always kept it going in the same direction. For example, the train scenes, all that was used was a seat and lighting, and the rest was just sound, and the appearance that they were waiting on a train was very powerful. ------------------------------------------------------------------------**Bibliography**. The way these two acted together to form the perspectives of two people falling in love and working through their problems was excellent.
