Genocide
Genocide has been and continues to be, a very serious problem for the entire world. Time and time again acts of genocide have been committed over the past 100 years. The three examples I will use throughout the essay are: the Armenians, the German Holocaust, and the Rwandans. I will be comparing similarities of how each horrifying act began, and what measures were taken to stop it. I will show the racial, ethnic, and religious reasons behind these genocidal acts. Also the economies of these countries were at an all time low, which played a key role in the beginning of these acts. Although all of these are very important points, the main question is figuring out where the responsibility lies: with the countries who commit the act, or the countries who do nothing to stop these genocidal acts? First, I believe that the most important and strongest reason for why genocide happens is ethnic discrimination. In each example: the Armenians, the German Holocaust, and the Rwandans, ethnic discrimination was a key component. This similarity is amazing for the fact that the Turks discriminated against the Armenians. The Germans discriminated against the Jews, and the Hutu's over the Tutsi's. E
Which leads me to the question, is it the leaders fault for basically brainwashing their communities, or is it the overall population's fault for not being able to see what was really going on? The state at which each country was in at the time of the genocides was extremely crucial. In the same respect all of the genocidal acts ended in basically a similar manner. In comparison, the German's economy was terrible after World War I, because they were trying to pay off all their debts of the war to the other countries. Therefore, the rest of the outside world did nothing to stop him. Also, the outside world had plenty of warning signs and plenty of chances to stop these horrifying acts before they actually began. They should be punished for these actions by letting history itself give them a bad name. Further more is sending a message that we basically approved of what was going on. As an entire world, I hope we have finally learned that we cannot allow something like this to happen. ach of these occurred because the groups, which were committing the genocide, believed they were superior to the groups being killed off. It shocks me to think the groups committing these crimes honestly thought they had the right to kill people just because they didn't agree with the cultures religious beliefs. This is the approach the world has taken on genocide in each occasion I've discussed, and the groups committing the acts know they can get away with it. This is a very sad and disturbing fact for society to grasp, because it seems so unbelievable that people could actually do this to each other. I feel the countries that allowed these acts to happen are to some degree more at fault. Each genocidal act started basically the same way and had about the same devastating effect on the cultures being murdered. The question still remains of where does the responsibility lie; with the countries who committed the act, or the countries that did nothing to stop it? I strongly believe the cultures that committed the acts (Germany, Turks, and Hutu's) should be first and fore most held responsible.
