             Tattoos, piercing, and branding are different forms of body art that are becoming more and more popular these days. These various forms of body modifications are becoming more expected by those who would¡ve frowned upon it five to ten years ago. Body art is also more widespread among younger generations. There is a history to it as far back as the primitive humans that used it for ceremonies, religious reasons, or a rite of passage. Whether its tattoos, body piercing, or branding, each and every one possesses its own meanings, uniqueness, and methods.
             The first, and the oldest form of body art are tattoos. It is defined as the production of patterns on the face and body by inserting colors of dye under the skin. Billions of people throughout the world have piercings. They are usually done for a sense of self-expression, decoration, or and indication of status. There are several methods of tattooing, but the most common is the electrical-powered needle. Tattoo designs are also thought by various people to provide magical protection against sickness or misfortune, but mostly it is done for the purpose of self-expression. Its origins go way back from ancient cultures as a mark of privilege or royalty. (Krakow 56) As it moved through the centuries, tattoos became somewhat of a negative image. Those that possessed such markings were seen by many to be ¡§savage¡. Today, tattoos have reached a point in our culture where is has become stylish and a symbol of, not so much recklessness, but of conformity to certain ideas !
