Or for some poverty may be as extreme as one who lives underneath a bridge with their belongings in a shopping cart. John Kenneth Galbraith's definition of poverty is when an individuals income, even if adequate for survival, falls behind that of the community's standard. Galbraith has many beliefs concerning case and insular poverty. These specific ideas would help our society with poverty, because it would better nourish, educate, and as a whole leave a better live for less deprived individuals. This particular idea is similar to insular poverty although not the same. As Galbraith states, the idea to nourish and educate as a whole leaves a better life for less deprived individuals is the best way to fight and to diminish poverty. Mostly these unfortunate people were born into these situations or have instigated them on their own. It is different from case poverty however, insular can not be described as individualistic since it is so broad. " When Galbraith wrote this essay in the 1950's, women were the prime leaders of poverty-stricken households, along with thirty percent of African Americans, eight percent of caucasion and ten percent of Spanish origin. People have been aggravated in the past for being associated with their community and it being labeled as such poverty. Specifically this exists because of individualistic problems, such as alcoholism, unhealthy behavior, wrong moral social decisions, and mental deficiencies. Case poverty is described on each individual basis. Galbraith explains two different ideas of poverty being, case and insular. What is the right solution for poverty? Do you give the less deprived a large sum of money to earn their way out of poverty? This solution is bound to cause controversy with society as a whole. There is no simple solution to poverty. In the 1950's, women were looked down upon especially when they had children, however things have changed very much today. Welfare is taken advantage of in many cases. It is a tool for helping people get out of poverty yet often used to sustain ones living. Galbraith believes the best way to help is to show that it exists and there are two different types, case and insular poverty.
