steroids
In the world of sports in the 20th and now the 21st century you would be hard pressed to not be able to find at least one case of athletes using steroids to enhance the performance potentials. In the 1988 Olympic Games, Ben Johnson won the 100m sprint as he destroyed the world record. Soon after Ben Johnson had the medal taken away from him because he tested positive for steroids days afterwards. Many years ago China and East German were accused and punished for having their female swimmers on steroids to make them bigger and faster than the women from countries all over the world to form a domination in the pool. Attempts by athletes to enhance their performance has not been limited to just the past 12 years. Ancient Greek Olympians would eat mushrooms to win, while the Aztec athletes ate the human heart (Eichner). Tom Hicks took strychnine and brandy during the Olympic marathon to take home the gold (Eichner). In 1960, Knuf Jensen, and Danish cyclist, passed away du!ring the road race from taking amphetamines, while famous British cyclist, Tommy Simpson, died during the Tour De France from amphetamines (Eichner). Steroids are even more prevalent today as kids are starting to explore stero
Men were not the only ones who got turned on to these new steroid "stacking" programs. The first is the most obvious the drug was not used to level the perverbial playing field but was used to once again make the playing field !uneven and at the same time unfair again. These threee to four week burst are commonly referred to as cycles. Also the Chinese female swimmeres and runners who from 1992 and 1994 came out of a relatively unknown stature to set world records in thier swimmeing or running events. People suffering from Lupus take steroids many times to help to fight their disease. Prednisone is a steroid that is produced by the outer cortex of the adrenal glnad. The East German women swimmers who from 1970 to 1980 won countless medals in their events and set many recoreds. They will go onto a cycle for different amounts of time! depending largely on what steroid or steroids they are planning on taking for this cycle. Then Ziegler's worst nightmare came true when his new steriod was used to make the playing fields uneven again because Dianabol had become thenext big thing for athletes competeing on the professsional or international level, for the rest of his life he regretted ever creating the anabolic steroid Dianabol for two reasons. They give themselves very large doses for a short amount of time, usually about three to four weeks at a time. In the World Games in 1956 in Moscow, US Physician John zIegler saw most of the Soviet athletes using testosterone to enhance their performances so that they would have an advantage over the athlets from the Western world that Ziegler saw as unfair, and he set out to produce a substance that would level the playing field for his athletes from the Western world with the Soviet athletes (Eichner). Women started to experiment with the new producets and soon found out that when they started to take maore of these male hormaones they were gaining more muscle, getting slimmer hips, less body fat, and higher hematocrits. Steroids are not all bad for people. ------------------------------------------------------------------------**Bibliography**.
