             Hamlet: Was he insane or sane?
             In Shakespeare's "Hamlet", there are many events throughout the play that present a theme of madness. Shakespeare provides the reader with evidence concerning Hamlet's sanity beginning with the first scene of the play. The guards, whose main purpose in the play was to give credibility to the ghost of Hamlet's dead father, approach Hamlet with an ominous sighting. Hamlet's actions led everyone, except Horatio to believe that Hamlet was insane. However, other parts of the play lead the reader to believe that he was sane. Many critics frequently argue the madness of Hamlet. It's difficult to label Hamlet as either sane or insane, especially when he implies to Horatio that he would only act mad. However, there are many reasons that can lead him to a mental breakdown, including betrayal, deceit, and murder. Much of Hamlet's madness came from the fact that his father's spirit was unable to pass through the other side because his murderer was his own flesh and blood. His father wante!

             The death of his father was a complete setback to his nobility. His mother remarried Hamlet's uncle, Claudius, and Claudius became King. The thought of losing the crown would make any person commit villainous acts, but it could also lead a person to breakdown mentally. The knowledge that he has obtained from the ghost, that his own uncle killed his father, summoned his feelings of revenge. The ghost's appearance was the evidence to prove that Hamlet was mad because the ghost was visible to Hamlet and the others at the beginning, but Hamlet was the only one to see it in his mother's room during their confrontation.
             Hamlet lost two women in his life, his mother and Ophelia. Hamlet and Ophelia were in love, but her father wanted their relationship to end.
