Around 1818 the Americas revolution began. Today we call this Manifest Destiny. This started many businesses to grow in to warehouses and it also started the Missouri Comprise. During this time in a America there was thousands of things going on at once. One of the major construction projects that went on during this time was the Erie Canal. America was expanding to the east coast all the way over to the west coast. Many of the owners disagreed with these policies and starting hiring illegal immigrants so they could report that they were working to the unions. This ended up starting the National trade unions. Many people were getting wealthy off of gold and farm land at the time. When people heard what he was trying to do they all thought that he was nuts and never thought he would finish. But in the end they thought it was a great idea and it was saving everyone money. These unions protected the rights of the workers and gave them rights over the owners of the companies. Once they got settled majority of them became farmers and made a living off of their crops. Around the mid 1800's workers started to seek better working conditions in the factories and in the sweat shops. In 1834 a massive strike took place and it was ineffective because the owners of the shops just went out and hired the Irish immigrants and the local women.
