Dynamics of Being a Teenager

             Today's news is filled with articles about misbehaving teenagers. It is least likely the reporters to inform people referring to normal teenagers, who suffer from stereotypical views towards teenagers. Do adults have the rights to believe that all teenagers misbehave because only the act of a few? I strongly believe that they do not. However, people seem to classify the out of control and the not-out of control into teenagers, and adults. It is wrong to believe that all teenagers are out of control because of the actions of only a few. I do believe that teenagers, including myself are indeed more out of control then adults or younger kids.
             You walk in the family room, grab the remote and turn on the television. As the imagination elimination box lights up, the first thing that you see are violence, sex, and other material that was not viewed by older adults when they were teenagers. As the time passes, people generally seem to get more violent, and out of control. It is proven that on average, today's movies contain a cornucopia of violence, sexual content, and profanity compared to the movies of the same age rating a decade ago. Therefore, teenagers are introduced to more inappropriate contents in a pg-13 movie.
             There has been a spectrum of views about how violence in media affects people. Professor L. Rowell Huesmann, of University of Michigan stated, "Exposure to media violence causes children to behave more aggressively and affects them as adults years later".
             When Jonathan Freedman of the University of Toronto argues that, "the scientific evidence simply does not show that watching violence either produces violence in people, or desensitizes them to it."
             I believe that it is the people's decision to act violently. However, can we really argue that more and more violence is being presented in the media, and this will not have any affect on the viewers?
