Must Religion Be Completely Excluded From Schools? Yes according to the Supreme Court ruling of Lemon vs. Kurtzman, religion must be excluded from the nation's public schools. On June 28, 1973, the Supreme Court mandated that all education was to be divided into secular and sacred. By this act in conjunction with the 1963 Abington Township Case separation of church and state, prayer and bible reading has been taken out of public schools. Religion and school go hand-in-hand, taking it out of schools is causing irreparable damage to our kids and the future of America, by taking away their foundation of morals. What began in the 1960's as taking state mandated prayer out of schools became in the 1970's taking religion out of schools with the ruling of Lemon vs. Kurtzman. The impact that this ruling makes upon the schools of our great nation can't be measured. For proof, simply catch a 5:30 news segment on your local TV station. Three kids have been killed on or in school grounds during the past week!
I am not saying that everyone in school has to pray the Christian prayer, but merely have the option available. Take a look at George Washington, when he prayed that God "would most graciously be pleased to dispose us allto do justice, to love and to show mercy, and to demand ourselves with that charit, humility, and pacific temper of mind, which were the characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without humble imitation of his example we can never hope to be a happy nation. I am convinced that the battle for our kids' future must be waged and won in the public school classroom by teachers who correctly perceive their role as the doors for which our kids must pass through. " He preached that this nation depends on God and the principles God teaches; yet now these principles cannot be taught in the public school system. What can it hurt? Before Lemon vs. You can't solve a puzzle with one piece, however you can break it down, and make your path simpler and easier. In today's society, there are even more pressures on kids than what they used to have. The classroom must and will become a cornerstone for students to lean on. On September 17, 1776, Washington summarized what every nation must have to survive. What is the answer to the question: Must religion be completely excluded from schools? According to our current government, the separation of church and state is essential, but according to our forefathers' this would be considered blasphemy. Prayer and religion being re-instituted in schools such a solution. The more options, like prayer you take away from kids, the more headlines you are going to see. " Religion and education cannot be separated. We have to take our families back and get our kids off the street. The early history of our country and the attitudes of our early presidents showed great respect for the Bible and for religion.
