identity
In everyone's lives there are times when they are forced to determine what is wrong and what is right. The way that they determine this is by their belief system, or in simpler terms, our identities. You will hear of so many people having "identity crisis", as well they should. In a world where people are afraid to walk out in the streets, in a world where people have to put on two faces to get ahead, its easy to see how people can get confused about themselves. An identity is what separates you and the person sitting next to you. Without identity people would all be similar to a bunch of lemmings dying a slow but deliberate social death. There are a myriad of reasons why people have the beliefs and identities that they do. Although many factors, including parents, schooling, friends and personal experiences, affect the way people's identities are formed, it is ultimately the decision of people themselves to create their true identities. The first influences on the lives of young children that could have a major effect on their identities are the parents and home life. It is because their parents are the people that they around the most as kids that this is the first influence. Common sense would dictate that kids who h

The next major influence on a young child's life is his friends. For example, if a child sees two kids get into a fight and not get in trouble, what does that teach him or her? It teaches them the fact that no matter what they do all they have to do is have their mom call the school and complain. ave a healthy, loving home life are more likely to have well-adjusted lives. I will always remember me trying to mold in with the crowd when what I should have been doing all along was to find myself and my own personality. All facets of schooling influence kids; the teachers, the material and the administrators are just some examples. With more and more kids being plopped in front of the TV for amusement and education reasons, the commercials, news and other shows that come on during the normal watching hours of the children can have a profound impact on a child's morals. The media should also take up some responsibility by making some of its higher controversy shows less accessible to children who should not be watching them. Imagine, if you will that all you saw were superheroes getting shot at and living, doing dangerous stunts, trying to pick up promiscuous women, what would you believe? This becomes a real problem because of the advancement and accessibility of the media today is higher then ever before, it becomes the parents responsibility to my make sure their children are healthy watching good, wholesome shows. This makes the kids think that they can do whatever they want and get away with it. The third major influence on a child's younger years is his or her school's beliefs. With so many outside things shaping us and molding us into the people that we are today, is it any wonder that many people are very confused about their roles in life? Although many factors, including parents, schooling, friends and personal experiences, affect the way people's identities are formed, it is ultimately the decision of people themselves to create their true identities. Without our own personal identities we would all be just wandering around aimlessly in this world without a purpose, without a care, without dreams and without fears.
