Achilles:A Dynamic Character

In The Iliad by Homer, Achilles is a dynamic character. A dynamic character is someone who changes from the beginning of a story to the end. Many events in this story influence Achilles to change. He becomes independent and also values Achilles was the Greeks' greatest warrior. He had his own armor and owned Myrmidons, or specially trained fighting men. He relied on his mother, Thetis, forhelp whenever he had a problem. Achilles was also very happy with his life and did not want a change. His best friend was Patroclus, who was slain by Hector. He

He has also become very conceited andvengeful. This is one of the greatest changes Achilles makes in the story. For example, when King Agamemnon steals Achilles' wife, Briseis, Achillesasks his mother to go to Zeus. He apologizes to King Priam and asks for forgiveness. When King Priam reminds him of his own father, he sees that he has been indifferent to other peoples affections. In the end, he gives up his pride and begins to act morecompassionately towards others. Finally, he realizes he is wrong in doingthis and returns Hector's body to King Priam. By the end of the story, Achilles doesn't rely on anyone else for helpand has learned to take responsibility. In conclusion, Achilles can be described as a dynamic character. He thought of himself assuch a great warrior, he felt that without him, the Greeks would lose the war. Here, he has changed again byrealizing his mistakes and becoming more caring. He didn't know how to solve his own problems so he ran to Thetis for help. He kills Hector and, as promised, gets revenge by dragging Hector's dead body over Patroclus' burial mound. He under-goes many changes in the story.
