             1. No, the computer store salesman is not correct in advising Jeannine to use a spreadsheet, database, and word processing software to develop an investment tracking system. His first mistake was to think that a software package would solve Jeannine's problem. When developing a system, there are certain sets of activities and methods that are to be followed when developing an information system. If Jeannine were to approach this task on her own she'd be losing more money than ever! I would persuaded Jeanine to take the System Analysis and Design course by telling her she might not even need a new system. If she took the time to take the course she would see that she needed to study the problems of the current system, access her needs, and then determine how the information she's interested in can best accomplish the improvement for the investment tracking system. I'd then tell her by taking the course she'd be learning what areas to zero in on, and the proper cost effect!

This methodology is a very formal and precise system development process that defines a set of activities, methods, best practices, deliverables, and automated tools to use to develop and maintain most of all information systems and software. Janine didn't bother to get the owners and users involved into developing this new system.
