Phildelphia(the movie)
This quote is from the end of the credits of the film Philadelphia andbasically sums up the shocking reality of the problems in our culture. AIDS - acquired immunodeficiency syndrome -- was first reported in the United States in 1981 and has since become a major worldwide epidemic. AIDS is caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). HIV progressively kills and damages cells in the body's immune system. Because of the constant destruction of cells, the body's ability to fight infections and certain cancers decreases tremendously. People diagnosed with AIDS may also contract life-threatening diseases calledopportunistic infections, which are caused by microbes (such as viruses or bacteria). In this movie it showed exactly how this happens and how America and everywhere else people are not living to the fullest because they are scared of what may come of their happiness. People are being ridiculed for being homosexual, and people are dying of the AIDS virus without someone who cares for them because they are afraid to interact with them. I remember watching this in 1993 when it came out in the theaters. Philadelphia hit a lot of sore spots. The ideas from this movie shocked a lot of people, because the ideas that were brought forth to the screen, were not necessarily acceptable at the time. Many people with AIDS were looked at oddly because of their physical appearance. htm) In 1993, the year this movie was made was an appropriate time because it was about the same time people begin to learn about the AIDS virus.
