A Midsummer Night's Dream Review
First of all, thanks for letting us enjoy this wonderful performance. I have seen the SSE perform two times previously, each time it gets better. I don’t know if it’s the acting, directing, Shakespeare’s plays, or the style in witch they are done that makes these performances so great. I have a feeling that it is a combination of all of these. The audience interaction with the players makes ones theatrical experience more exciting, combined with the feeling that this is how it actually was in Sheakspear’s day, makes for a superb outing. All of these things are brought together through excellent acting and directing choices by a skilled group of individuals who make up the SSE. The actors combined with the director show a very modern day interpretation of a timeless classic. They use both contemporary and retroactive means of conveying Shakespeare’s work in a way that enables audiences from all ages to enjoy the show. The wardrobe was wonderful; the actors who played the Athenians dressed in a 60’s style. To me, this conveyed the innocence of that area along with the exuberance and experience most of the younger generation were looking for. Most of the costumes in the play were provocative to an extent, witch they s . . .
The actors and the director deserve a lot of credit for pulling off such a challenging piece of work with style and grace. These two characters had a certain charisma that makes a play interesting. They used music a few times in the play to set certain scenes up. I had never seen this play until now; I was able to get a good feel of what was happening by the musical intro. All in all, the costumes provided a great way to! let people who have never heard or seen the play assimilate what has happened a little better. In my opinion the greatest example of acting and directing choices shines through in the last scene where everyone comes together for the play. I thoroughly enjoyed their interpretation and can’t wait to see them again next year, unless I can catch them in DC before then. Titania and her fairies were also dressed perfectly, they all acted out their names, and you could see it in their dress as well. I particularly enjoyed the relationship of Oberon and his servant Puck. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ **Bibliography** . I think they are able to do this through subtle little nuances that can be related to everyday life. Thank you for this wonderful theatrical experience. I could feel the love between Hermia and Lysander, from the beginning of the play. Puck, was also played very well, I liked the fact that he was shorter, it made the fairy character all the more believable. I agree with the sexiness of the costumes, because it seems to me that the title may refer to a male’s equivalent of a wet dream.
