Battle of the Sexes: who is in the lead

While I was driving in the car a few months ago, my mother and I were talking about the various stereotypes of students, which lead into a discussion of gender inequity. Who is better-males or females? That is something that many people are still arguing throughout the world today. My mother stated that "various studies have shown that men are, and always have been, better than women." Is this really true? My hypothesis is that this is incorrect and that women are at least equal with men in education. This statement irritated me and I found myself wanting to disprove the belief that men are superior to women in education because I find this fact disturbing for a country that promotes equality in both males in females. The issue of gender inequity is one that has been publicly reverberating throughout society for decades-the problem of gender inequity in education being one of the more pressing issues of today. This paper will examine the true statistics of gender ineq!uity and hopefully disprove what little knowledge I have of this subject matter. It will also tackle what is being done to remedy the situation. In a slow attempt at starting this research for this paper, I quickly turned to the Internet to find any and

She attributed this to the fact that most of the boys in her classroom were attempting to show off to their friends or surrounding classmates. Over time and throughout their school years, female students have consistently outperformed their male peers in the crucial areas of reading and writing, and the gap between the genders remains large. She believes that if boys see their father and other role models working in jobs that invol!ve more math and science, they too will follow in the footsteps of their peers and surrounding idols. Surprisingly, however, I did find that there are more gender differences favoring male students in mathematics and science. Among the eighth and twelfth graders, however, males like those classes more than females. One problem with the websites is that most of the sites I found disproving the problem were mostly written by radical feminists stating that all men are basically suppressing women and their abilities. This stereotype is what suppos!edly enables the boys to jump ahead in the educational aspects of life. Although part of the statement my mother told me was true, I was relieved to find out that my hypothesis was also true in many aspects. In 1972, males were more likely than females to enroll in a two to four year college immediately after graduating from high school (males being fifty-three percent as opposed to females at forty-six percent). According to the survey, girls seem to have fewer problems with school in the early grades than do boys. Why, then, are females lagging in these areas? As to what topics males and females liked, they were the same in fourth grade (mathematics and science). It is because of this that I feel society has implanted in women that men are supposed to do better than females in school. all literary sources that would aid me in my search. Both sexes are increasing in this aspect, but girls more than boys.
