The Real Jesus
In the best selling book of all time is the single most important man ever to walk on the earth in the view of the Christian religion. Jesus, the figurehead of whom the Christian religion is based on, is one of the most radical thinkers of his time. Most accounts of Jesus' life are told through the first four books of the New Testament. However, these books were written well after Jesus died. So the authors of these books had to interview many people to try to get an understanding of his life. So the four gospels are really a compilation of eyewitness accounts of Jesus and excerpts from other sources. In the twentieth century, scholars struggle to understand what Jesus was really like. Reading the text alone brings along many distortions of how Jesus really acted and spoke. However, by reading deeper into the texts, the true life of Jesus begins to appear. When an understanding the historical, cultural, and religious contexts of the Bible is attained, an understanding! To understand the atmosphere that Jesus was raised in, reading of the end of the Old Testament is necessary, as well as, the reading of the birth of Jesus. The birth of Jesus is depicted in two of the four gospels, Matthew and

In the book of Luke during Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem, Mary is riding on a donkey. Also, in verse nine, he writes that this king will be riding on an ass. He wanted Jesus to deliver the Jewish people from oppression. In the book of Matthew, Magi who come bearing gifts visit the baby Jesus. The Jewish people were almost always in need of a leader. This feeling of looking for a leader is expressed in the prophecies of Zechariah in chapter nine verses nine through ten:9Rejoice heartily, O daughter of Zion, shout for joy, O daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king shall come to you; a just savior is he, Meek, and riding on an ass, on a colt, the foal of an ass. However, most people did not realize why Jesus was doing what he was doing. The next person that they felt to fill that role is Jesus. After his death, the people that were the closest to him, his disciples, did not know what to think because they all thought he was going to be the new King of the Jewish people. Jesus' was God become human so that he could come down and lead the Jewish people and teach them new ways to look at the bible. In the view of Matthew and the readers of Matthew's gospel, Jesus was on the earth to bring about a change by being a leader. The title of the book defines what is going to happen in Exodus.
