Learning Everywhere

             The saying, "Education is the key to success," is often used to encourage young students to attend primary and secondary education in order to succeed in the future. Ever since we were old enough to attend kindergarten, the importance of earning an education has always been emphasized. After high school, we are then told that we need to earn a degree at some university to achieve a great career and future life. The vast knowledge that teachers and professors teach us in mathematics, history, and so on is made out to be so significant to determining our futures. However, it has also been said, "Not all learning takes place in the classroom." The knowledge that we learn from our personal experience is quite different from the knowledge that we gain from classroom instruction. This source of knowledge acquired from experience serves as a greater advantage that enables survival in the real world than the trivial knowledge taught in schools.
             The knowledge we gain in the classrooms at school is mostly trivial knowledge. There are a variety of subjects that we learn in school that seems impossible to apply in the real world. For example, all the dates and events of history that many teachers expect us to memorize and know inside and out will never be used in our future lives unless we are a game contestant on Jeopardy or sparking up conversation over cocktail drinks. History is important in that we learn from our past mistakes and try not to repeat them, but the objective of going to school and learning is to make a decent living in the future. We do not need to know all the presidents and what period of history the dinosaurs were alive to accomplish this. The knowledge we learn in school is mostly taught for students to learn and use to pass a test. Then most of that is forever buried in our brains and never used again. Classroom instruction can come in handy as we enter into secondary schools and pursue our dream car...
