Painting

When someone says the word painting, I think of warm and vivid colors. The smell of mediums and turpentine comes to mind. The kind of painting I am talking about is oil painting. Unlike other paints oil take longer to dry. A lot of people don't know a lot about paints. They don't know that there are many different kinds of paints. I speak from experience that is why I am able to say this. So in my outline I will be telling you about painting, and different types of paints. Such as watercolor, tempera, oil, acrylic, encaustic, and fresco. Painting can go back as far as cave people. Many of the cave people did cave paintings. These painting were done with natural pigment from plants and deposits of minerals. So in some cases one may agree that drawing and painting are very close. Some artists often use a sketch of some kind before doing the actually painting. Painting is often just drawing with paint. But paintings are much bigger and tend to have more color then drawings. Paintings usually take a lot of time and effort not say that drawings don't take time as well. What I mean is that painting must dry at time before you can go on. See when you make a mistake in drawing you can usually erase the mistakes you


A thin layer of paint is applied to allow light to pass through and replicate back from the white paper. Paint is then applied to the fresh wall plaster. There are three things that make up paint, pigment, medium, and vehicle. Most of the time paint is applied to a canvas or very heavy paper. Pigment is what provides us with color. The acrylic paint is a fast drying paint, but also very flexible. It also can be applied thick or thin wet to dry. The vehicle is what allows the pigments to spread. In these ancient times they used egg tempera. Like watercolor paintings water is also added to tempera painting. Watercolor paint is dry like when it was use centuries ago.
