What accounts for the success of the American Revolution?

In 1775, war broke out between the British and the American colonists. By 1776, the colonists had declared their independence and after eight years of a prolonged and bloody war, in 1783 Britain was forced to recognize the independence of the United States. Many people never thought that the Americans would win the battle. Their chances of winning were very little at the beginning. The British should have won the Revolution easily because their government was the most powerful in the world at that time. But due to key American military victories and advantages, the British were defeated. There are certain inevitabilities about American success.First, there is the domestic enthusiasm in the United State. Americans went to war to defend the inalienable rights of man to life, liberty. It had only one objective to accomplish to win the Revolution, and that was to hold out until the end of the war. The Americans could do this because they were fighting for their freedom, which was of great importance to them. The war took place on American soil; they were fighting at home, so the British had to bring troops and supplies from across a wide ocean, which favored the Americans by making it hard on Britain to control their troops. From 1760's to 1770's, the centre of power was transferred from the British government to the colonial citizens. From that time on, until the Treaty of Paris of 1763, France and England fought for the possession of India and North America. He's troops did surprise the British army who were in position there. His plan was to capture the Hudson River Valley in New York State and separate New England from the other colonies. Third, the American Revolution had got the direct assistance from the European allies, especially France. Another result of the victory at Trenton was that more men decided to join the army. General Howe made the same mistake as last winter. For all these American virtues and British difficulties and mistakes, the Americans still required French aid-money, supplies, and military force to win a decisive victory. During the war France sent arms, clothing, and ammunition to America: it also sent soldiers and the French Navy. Washington's victory at Trenton changed the way Americans felt about the war. "(2000, p195)One famous scholar -- John C. Meaning the British army had to fend off challenges all over the world.
