While there may not be cures for certain human diseases, there is definitely a drug that can be used to ease the pain of many of them, such as arthritis, asthma, Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrom (AIDS), depression, glaucoma, multiple sclerosis, cancer and many others. This drug is marijuana, also known as cannabis. Marijuana is the dried leaf of the hemp plant that gives off tetrahydocannibinol (THC). THis chemical is part of the healing combination that is acquired through smoking. Marijuana can be smoked to experience a "high" that can make the user feel he or she is the happiest person in the world. It causes laughter, increased senses, relaxation, hunger (often known as "the munchies"), relieves nausea and pain. Therapeutic marijuana should be legalized because it minimizes patients' suffering in major and minor diseases. Marijuana can play a key role in eliminating nausea in chemotherapy patients and assist in the process of a patient gaining weight. Marijuana is a very powerful drug in "combating nausea and vomiting, making it possible for the person to consume food and to hold it down" (Potter and Joy 147). This tax act put a small tax on marijuana and the transportation of the drug, and it also paved the road to making marijuans illegal. For the people that are suffering from cancer chemotherapy, multiple sclerosis, glaucoma and many other painful diseases there is a pain reliever and symptom reducer available. This effect lasts an average of four to five hours and reduces pressure by 30% (Zimmerman 66). However if someone has a chronic migraine and uses it daily, it will often lead to a complete remission of the migraines (Rayl). "Marijuans has an extremely wide acute margin of safety for use under medical supervision and cannot cause lethal reactions" (American Public Health Association). Cannabis can be smoked in order to relieve migraine pain as well as prevent it. Therapeutic marijuana was used and porescribed in the past until 1937. Oral THC and smoking marijuana help reduce and control the nausea that accompanies cancer chemotherapy. "'It works on serotonin and dopamine receptors, and has anti-inflammatory activity,' commented Ethan Russo, neurologist of the Montana Neurobehavioral Specialist Group in Missoula" (Rayl). "Most people who use marijuana for migraines say inhaled marijuana is perferred . That definitely worries parents, government officials, and others. Therefore the dosage does not have to be increased over time like other medicines (Potter and Joy 132). Smoking marijuana has been said to be harmful to a person't health but the facts above have made it obvious that the drug encompasses healing and preventing effects.
