How does violence in books, newspapers and television influence spectators and readers?
In our time there is more and more violence that we read about and watch on TV.
It surrounds us everywhere. In this article I will try to show different kinds of violence
in the media that provokes aggression in spectators and readers.
First of all I will show its presence in books, secondly in newspapers and thirdly I will
speak about violence that we watch on TV.
There is a lot of violence in books that influence readers. In public opinion there is not much
violence in books that can influence us. But in reality there are two kinds of violence in books:
the obvious one and implied. First of all I would like to speak about the obvious kind of violence. We can find it in genre of "action" books and books about war. This is expected in such kind of books and readers want to read about it. For example, books of Robert
Lendlum , Tom Kalansy and others are full of violent events. Secondly there is implied
kind of violence. It is present in the genre of most popular kinds of books: thrillers and science fiction books. In spite of the fact that it is not the main theme there, it plays very
important role and influences the readers. The good example of such books is the book about
Jason Brown – the man who forgets who he is and then finds out that he is American agent
and is sent to kill somebody. The second example is science fiction book "The Lord of the Rings" in which violence is everywhere. The third one is "Harry Potter" where the boy,
wizard –in-training fights with evil and which is interwoven with aggression. The concealed
violence is more dangerous than unconcealed one. The unconcealed violence in certain kind
of books is expected and we are prepared for it. But concealed violence influences us
unconsciously. It gives us the message that violence is present every...
