An on going debate continues currently in America regarding uniform policy suggested to public and private schools. Thinking about this issue has led me to believe that making school uniforms mandatory would help improve schools in this country in many ways.
             First and most important, school uniforms would eliminate the pressure of fitting in and relieve the tensions between the new students and those who are already there. A dress code will expedite the process of making new friends for the new students the uniforms will help them feel a sense of belonging. A sense of unity will build within the school and students will feel as if they are a part of one whole team charging toward their ultimate goal: graduation and college. The sense of unity will bring more fans and support for sport events and help the school financially. The school uniform will allow students to make friends on their personal qualities rather than appearance. Many students avoid some of their classmates because of the way they dress rather than become friends with them.
             Next, many people agree that wearing uniforms would decrease arguments that begin over expensive clothing and sneakers. School systems hope that uniforms will help eliminate gang violence caused by students wearing rival gang colors. It will also prevent the wealthier students from picking on their less fortunate classmates because they can afford to dress the same. Although no evidence confirms that the uniform policy will improve academic achievement, the Long Beach Unified School District reported a 50 percent decline in the number of disturbances at schools and bus stops in their districts. Overall, it set an example for other schools planning to adopt the uniform policy by showing noticeable improvements in specific areas of its educational environment.
