Rabbit Proof Fence

Phillip Noyce's 'Rabbit Proof Fence' expresses many of the values and attitudes regarding respect and dignity. This is clearly shown by the unjust policy enforced by the government during the 1930's with the mistreatment of the aboriginal people. Using the Molly, Daisy and Gracie, and their tale, Noyce creates a story that explores and contrasts issues such as the aborigine's relationship with the land with the enormous achievement of returning home, the spiritual bond within the family and the injustice of the children removal.'Rabbit Proof Fence', in many ways, represents life's ups and downs, and how some things are unfair. In this case, Molly's journey home to Jigalong represents her stand against what we now call racial prejudice. The injustice is clearly shown when the girls are taken from their mother and driven away in a police car with their depressed and upset faces pressed up against the window of


It is these spiritual and emotion bonds that give Molly the determination to leave for Jigalong. The film 'Rabbit Proof Fence' juxtaposes many themes and issues and explores the attitudes and values that are important to us in our community. It is here that both the girls and their mother grab a tight hold at each end of the fence. Though the government, under the control of A. Their journey home proved what human spirit and determination can accomplish. Throughout Noyce's film Rabbit Proof Fence, spirituality and family kinship are major themes that are continually offered. Pursued by an Aborigine tracker, and facing a seemingly impossible trek, they nevertheless press on, finding the rabbit-proof fence that stretches north-south across nearly all of the Australian continent and following it as a means to return to Jigalong. These strong contrasts express the frustration and helplessness of the situation, and the power of love. The depression and heartache of being separated from their family is apparent among the children at the Moore River settlement. This is revealed regularly through out the movie by the contrasts between the Love amid Molly and her fellow aborigines, the unjust political policy and the spiritual aborigine relationship with the land. " By using this quote early in the film, Phillip Noyce tells the audience that family kinship is very important in the aboriginal community and that this theme will may be further developed in the film. The injustice and prejudice experienced by all the aboriginal people would later have a great effect on the family kinship. They later learn the path of "duty, service, and responsibility.
