Pioneers in Education

There are many questions dealing with pioneers in education. A lot people do not know any of the great pioneers in education. As you read this report you learn about some of the greatest educational pioneers. When reading this report, you will become more familiar with two great educational pioneers. The first pioneer you will become familiar with is Jan Komensky or Comenuis. The second pioneer is John Dewy, who was one of the important American philosophies. As you continue to read this report, you will see how each of the pioneers influenced our schools of today. Jan Komensky (1592-1670), known as Comenuis was born in Nivintz (a Moravian town in Europe). He lived during the religious war between the Catholics and the Protestants. Comenuis was a bishop educator of the Moravian Brethren. Hoping to end the religious wars, he created a new educational philosophy called pansophism. His main purpose was cultivating a universal understanding. Comenuis believed that universally shared knowledge would stimulate a love of wisdom that would overcome national and religious hatreds and create a peaceful world order. John Dewey (1859-1952) developed his pioneering experimentalist philosophy of education against the backdrop of the social, political, scientific and technological changes taking place in the U. He felt education was for personal and social growth, schools as miniature societies and as liberating and democratic. Dewy developed the pragmatic experimentalist philosophy of education. The learner acquires the information needed to solve the problem. Dewey felt that knowledge is not inherited information but an instrument to solve problems. Dewey felt that the scientific method is the most effective process we have to solve problems. He felt the role of the teacher was to create a learning environment based on the shared experience of learners. enuis advised teachers to organize lessons into easily assimilated steps to making learning gradual, cumulative and pleasant. Dewey saw education and schooling as many things. Comenuis believed that teaching should be built on the children's interest and actively involve their senses. The learner frames possible, tentative solutions that may solve the problem. in the first half of the twentieth century. Comenuis was a pioneer who honored ethical principles of tolerance for religious differences. Comenuis believed in naturalistic education.
