Underage Drinking at College
"What is college about?" is a question that many people ask when the time comes toconsider what one wants to do with the next four years of their life. One popular answer mightbe, "One giant party!!". This notion is notable almost instantaneously once someone hasentered the college atmosphere. One could also note how easy it is to obtain the most popularparty favor, alcohol. And one could also point out where most of the alcohol is coming from, fraternities. Fraternities are notorious for their drinking and partying and it's no surprise thatmany of the people partying with them are minors who are illegally drinking at almost all of thefunctions. This is a incredibly severe problem that needs fixing. Entering freshman who need tofocus on schoolwork are being constantly pressured to drink at parties where alcohol is readilyavailable. "College students who reported D and F [GPA's] averaged 9 drinks perweek..."(www.madd.org). The availability of alcohol to minors needs to be reduceddramatically in order to help prevent many alcohol related accidents, allow new students tofocus on their schoolwork, and to stay in accordance with the law. Fraternities need to reduce
"Officers plan fake ID sting in Austin, San Marcos. It won't completely solve the problem, but it will takeit one step closer to ending. It is obvious to see how this is a problem. >From there on it's just a free-for-all drinkfest. There is a way however to help curb this problem. At most house parties the beer (the most popular andcheapest alcohol to serve) is inside of a giant horse trough in the middle of the party whereanyone can get it. Being a student myself I have noticed how readily available the alcohol actually is. Since the only way to identify minors is by theX's on their hands it is relatively easy for them to just walk into the bathroom and wash themright off and then no one knows the better anyway. The positive aspect of all this is that itdoesn't require very much funding to get the results desired.
