The first juvenile boot camp was developed in Orleans Parish, Louisiana, in 1985. Since then, 10 states have begun operating juvenile boot camps, which vary in size, requirements, and program structure.(31) Since the boot camp era did not take off until the 1990s, research regarding the effectiveness has been limited. The focus of the juvenile boot camp is on offender rehabilitation.(32) It is hard to make good conclusions about various boot camp programs effects on individuals because there are different things that play an important role in this process. These things may include drug use, substance abuse, physical abuse, or sexual abuse by a juvenile, or the aftercare of a boot camp graduate.
             The field of juvenile corrections has added a new twist to rehabilitating America's youth. In 1983, the first adult correctional boot camps were set up in Georgia and Oklahoma.Juvenile boot camps are now on the rise in the United States to help first-time offenders reintegrate back into society without living the life of crime.
