The Lack of Women's Rights in the Middle East

             As women, we must unite to help one another. We must all take our part in the struggle to bring justice to women. Violations against women in the Middle East have gone on for too long. In America, women are granted the same rights as men, woman should use that to help other women. Our struggle for equality is not over, for in America we have equal rights but it must not end there. These Muslim women are just as important, and as women in America must try to help these women, they are being denied the simplest human rights. For whatever reason, the lack of human rights for women has just been accepted. Meanwhile, hundreds of millions of Muslim girls and women continue to endure devastating and often fatal human rights abuses. Yet, we are not getting involved because we either feel this is a family issue or the Middle East problem. The violation of woman's rights is not an issue or a problem, it is a tragedy that we must see as all of ours. As a free rights county, we must help to educate the Middle East of their misdoing in order to conserve our own. Human rights violations against women must be documented, publicized, and stopped.
             The country of Iran declared that men are legally permitted to kill their wives if they are unfaithful, which leads to women being killed when their spouses are only suspicious (Goodwin 114). This statement holds true in all Islamic countries. Women are also murdered if they have been raped. As in the case of a disabled sixteen-year-old girl in Saudi Arabia, she was shot after she told her family she was raped. Her family decided she should die as she had brought shame to her family (www.Amensty.com). Women are being confined to the walls of their homes because of fear of the male population, assaulting, beating, raping, jailing, and torturing them all in the name of Islam.
