Analysis of The Crucifixion

             The piece of art work I selected for my formal analysis was The Crucifixion. This piece of work comes from the Byzantine era in Italy during the 1300's. The painting is one of the crucifying of Jesus Christ. This painting is very detailed so there is a lot I can point out in it. This painting has many interesting characteristics in it. The first one that I notice is the figure on the cross. The next thing I noticed was the many figures at the base of the cross around him. One thing that really stands out in the painting is the different uses of color. The painting also is formed in an arc which almost makes it looks like it was pasted onto the background. The forms of each person in the painting is also very noticeable.
             The first thing that stands out in this painting is the depiction of the crucifying of Jesus Christ. That was the first thing that I was drawn to when I looked at this painting. You see the figure hanging on the cross with his head hanging down depicting the limpness of the figure's beaten body. The figures arms a spread out across the cross and appear to be attached to it at the hands with some type of stakes. You can see what I take to be blood pouring from his hands where the stakes are driven into the cross. You can also see a red substance at the base of the cross which I also believe is blood coming from the figures beaten body. The blood is flooding the people's feet who are standing around the cross. The figure is wearing nothing more than what appears to be some type of cloth around his midsection. His upper body is bare for all to see. Looking at his upper body you can almost tell that the figure has been through a lot of abuse. The arms of the figure appear to be very lanky and thin. His stomach is sucked in almost as if he has been suffering from starvation. You can see the figure's ribs sticking out from his stomach. His legs also show signs of going through...
