reading the bible

>From reading the Bible, what comes immediately to our attention is the element of conflict in a man called upon to carry out an extremely difficult mission. The strength of Jeremiah as a character consists precisely in the intense and detailed conflict that rises between his hopes and his personal desires, those of the people to whom he is sent to proclaim the Word of God and the desires of God himself, who speaks through his words. In this essay I will explain what it is like to be in the shoes of Jeremiah as a prophet, how it affects his relationship with God and other people, and how being a prophet affects his own mindset.

Jeremiah seems to be put in a situation that is incomprehensible to me. To be directed by the Lord to do whatever He says whenever He says no matter what the consequences is quite pressure filled. Jeremiah is caught between a rock and a hard place but has faith in God’s words. I am not sure if I would have that muc

. . .

But to understand it, man must be able to give up a misleading peace and happiness that depend only on His own petty plans. Jeremiah has to preach a return to reality, an abandonment of all dreams and hopes on only God’s Word.

Jeremiah’s preaching then passes through a second moment, that of "building and planting.

Jeremiah’s path is one that passes through denial, through night. In fact, even Jeremiah does not always find it coherent with his own feelings. It is not a popular position, it does not try to replace fantasy with fiction but gives a hard-nosed truth about Jeremiah’s mission from God.

Jeremiah’s story becomes clearer to me in his purchase of Hanamel’s field, just when everything seems to call forth desperation rather than hope.

Putting the stories of Jeremiah in retrospect, being the time period where religion is thought of much more seriously by a larger group of people in a very religious land I would be able to due God’s will. Jeremiah personally goes through the dramatic content of the message he carries, experiencing it on his own person. With the bad came the good for Jeremiah as after he tore down he had to build back up again and this I could handle as people seemed to praise him for this at leas!

t for a short time. For the future, God is preparing a future of peace and salvation for man. And this is true also for others who must destroy the unfaithful and sinner to make the people of God have faith and begin to rebuild and re-realize God’s Will. To think what has to be entering the mind of Jeremiah when these missions are given to him is unimaginable.
