             There are several lessons and twists in the story that lead up to the theme to make the story valuable and unique that makes the reader understand and appreciate life. "A Company of Laughing Faces" by Nadine Gordimer shows conflict; figurative devices and setting are used to demonstrate the theme of innocence versus experience. These devices are the general importance of the story. The theme of the story is that people cannot hide under sheets, money and riches to escape the real world, of sin, mistakes and conflicts.
             "A Company of Laughing Faces", is generally written in a way that emphasizes the rich and famous to live a perfect non- sinful well-organized society. Hidden within the story is a young girl, being controlled, to live a life fixed with choice. One day not knowing what was beyond the made up fantasy world, she discovers that life was all of a sudden crumbling down on her, life was becoming ugly, tough and dark.
             Conflict, which is the main course of the tale contains more than one type of conflict at a time, but usually only one conflict is central to the story's plot. The main types of conflicts are: individual versus individual, individual versus self, and individual versus fate. The first conflict consists of two individuals such as Kathy and the male stranger. The male is described as cold, un- educated, not to be the type that Kathy would be familiarized among her family and companions. Kathy, who is described as wealthy, educated, and extravagant and well behaved, would never have thought to have the type of distant friends that would be out of her league. This would be the description of the two main characters that are directly opposite from each other. Just knowing him over a few conversations made her feel comfortable towards the person, not knowing the persons intentions whether good or bad.
