ansel adams
Ansel Adams was a photographer and a conservationist who was born on February20,1902. He was born at 114 Maple Street in San Francisco and he was the onlychild of Olive and Charles ("Ansel Adams" 1). He lived his child hood with hisparents on the tip of the San Francisco peninsula at Land's End ("Ansel Adams:One of the Greatest Photographers of All Time" 1). As a child Adams was not the best of a school student. His parents attempted tosend him to several different public and private schools in their area to givetheir child an education. At the young age of twelve in 1915, Ansel Adams wasexpelled from school ("Ansel Adams" 1). From that point on his parents felt thatit would be best for him to study at home, private tutors would teach Ansel.That same year his father bought him a season pass to the Panama-PacificExposition, Ansel visits it almost everyday (1). As a child Ansel Adams was interested in several activities. Some of theseincluded architecture, technology, music, and art ("Ansel Adams: One of TheGreatest Photographers of All Times" 1) He was also interested in landscape; hewould spend several hours exploring the land around San Francisco. Meeting Paul Strand in the year of 1930 wouldhelp him to straighten his decision (2). During the late 1930's Ansel and several other artists made trips throughoutthe southwest to practice there. His first book was "Making a Photograph" and it was aboutphotographic technique (2). He used far too much which caused smoke to pure out of the camera(2). The classroom was dark so Ansel decided to use more powder than theusual amount. Adams would laterteach courses in photography in the Museum of Modern Art. After reading the book he begged his parents to visit the valley for their nextvacation. At this time he would also begin towrite books. He would work at this job for the nextseveral summers, and while he was there he became friends with several of themembers. He would go to the home of Harry Best everyday to practice, he was alsostill taking photographs of Yosemite (2).
