braveheart

BraveHeart is, one of Hollywood’s best films depicting the historical past of Scottish history during the thirteenth century. Actor Mel Gibson, who not only had the leading role of Sir William Wallace, but also produced and directed the film, did a great job in trying to reconstruct history as it once was. However, from having read the book William Wallace: Brave Heart by James Mackay, I found that there were many discrepancies throughout the epic film, which I believe to have lessened its credibility.

First, I will briefly discuss the events that took place before the birth of William Wallace and how he came to be Scotland’s most memorable hero. During the early 1200’s Scotland, was experiencing many disputes between rival towns and rival families as well as the dispute against English invaders. Tension began to grow between the two rivals the Bruce and the Balliol families each were claiming their rights to the throne. However, these disputes would only get worse when Edward I (Longshanks) of England wanted the throne for himself, which he gained through lies and deceit. In Au

He is described as a man of great stature of about 6 feet, even though the average height for men during this time period was about 5 feet. Sir Wallace and his army men did not dress in rags and paint their faces rather, they were very skillful people who managed to make their armors and weapons. Also, writers and producers will admit that the setting of the!

movie and costumes of the characters mattered a lot. However, it is only right that writers and producers include the facts in order to make the story more appeasing rather than, showing the audience what they think we want to see. I believe that filmmakers exclude what they feel to be insignificant when in fact the information, which they choose not to include, is of the most importance.

. Long after winning many battles, William Wallace was captured in Scotland in 1305 and convicted for treason.

However, many of the facts, which I have stated above were either omitted or did not seem important enough for the writer or producer to include into the script. Wallace’s display of strength and valor made many of his !

countrymen continue what he had already started. Unfortunately, they do not put a lot of effort into really showing people what had happened. He was hung and while still alive his body was dismembered and his head was displayed on London’s Bridge to deter anyone who wanted to follow in his footsteps. He was the second of three sons to Sir Malcolm Wallace and was raised to become a well-rounded young man. Wallace wanted freedom for his country no matter how difficult it may have seem he was prepared to die for it and he did. The costumes I believe more Hollywood than what people actually wore back then. Also, they did see fit to mention Wallace’s younger brother John, and if you remember in the first half an hour of the film his father and older brother dies when Williams was a boy.
