Why the North won

Enough conflict between two different parties causes a war. The civil war was no different. Brothers fighting each other in a nation they had once shared. People often question the significance of the war, and why one triumphed over the other. In viewing of the statistics in numbers of the populations and army size, low war supplies of the Confederacy, food shortage of the Confederacy, and the strength of the Union Navy, it can be determined why the North defeated the South.
The North was much larger in size than the South. The population of the North was 22,339,989 before the war with the South having only 9,103,332. This includes slaves, and freed slaves. If one side has a larger population, they will also have a much larger army. The Union consisted of 4,559,872 men in their army, while the Confederacy contained a total of 1,064,193 men. This breaks down to over 4.5 Union soldiers to ever 1.0 Confederate soldier.
There were many battles where the Confederates ran out of ammunition and were forced to ram with their bayonets or swords. The South did not have the money to support the demand of the supplies to the armies that were so desperately needed. This was similar with the food shortage. The South ran short of food and many soldiers were not fed well and were in poor health.
The Union Navy was very strong and able to take towards the Mississippi River and gain strength against the Confederate army. The Confederacy did have some naval ships but were nothing to that of the north.
The Confederacy had the most astounding of Generals and soldiers, however there is only so much that an army can do if it is short of people, soldiers, supplies, food, and a navy.
