Heathcliff's Revenge

In Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights, Heathcliff, one of the main characters, tries to get revenge on other characters for past grievances. His cruelty in getting revenge is shown in his action against others. After his passion for revenge is fulfilled, his personality is changed and he is sorry for his sins against both the living and the dead. After the orphan Heathcliff is brought home by Mr. Earnshaw, his stepbrother Hindley is cruel to him. Hindley dislikes Heathcliff because their father prefers Heathcliff to Hindley. When Mr. Earnshaw dies Hindley treats Heathcliff as a servant and abuses him. Heathcliff remembers this abuse and vow

Heathcliff is not aware of this fact and wants to get revenge on her for not loving him. As a child, Heathcliff falls madly in love with Catherine Earnshaw. Catherine even goes so far as to say that they are the same person. However much in love they are, Catherine chooses to marry Edgar Linton instead of Heathcliff for social reasons. By taking his family's land Heathcliff gets revenge for Hindley's past transgressions. Heathcliff gets his revenge on Hindley by escaping out of the moors and acquiring a mysterious fortune. Another revenge of Heathcliff's is on Edgar Linton. She has good intentions for Heathcliff though, she wants to use her newfound wealth and help raise Heathcliff out of the gutter. Although she cannot marry them both, she still wants them both to be around her at all times. He hopes that the people he has hurt will forgive him in the afterlife ------------------------------------------------------------------------**Bibliography**. He realizes that she still loves him, and knowing this he chooses to elope with Isabella. He comes back to an alcoholic Hindley and wishes to "help" him out of his gambling debts. Heathcliff's revenge on Catherine is less of a physical one than an emotional revenge. By lending Hindley money that he cannot pay back, Heathcliff in turn gets the Wuthering Heights plantation. Heathcliff very strongly hates some of the other characters in the book.
