Homework
Many teachers assign homework every night, but is there a meaning to the madness? Although some educators may argue that the repetitiveness engraves it into your mind, I would have to say that I disagree. For me, homework is just a hassle, and an excuse for teachers to try to teach you more that what will fit into their class periods. Awkward sentence. Homework can also discourage students by knowing that they have a ton of work and them just finding a way to cheat on it, instead of actually doing the homework and learning the material. Homework also takes away from necessary social time, which is crucial for a child's mental growth, and social skills. Homework should not be given because it is sometimes used to teach, instead of for review, it can discourage students, and
I feel that homework is not only ineffective but actually hinders the growth of a young mind. Those "teachers" should not be allowed allowed to give homework. I mean that as in, they would rather just show up, pop in a videotape and give a test making the student teach themselves at home, making it an oxymoron for them to call themselves "teachers". Now I'm not saying that it's all teachers use a (,) comma before a conjunction. Homework for some teachers is just a way for students to learn something without having had it discussed and taught to them first. I am a firm believer against children doing homework until it is time for them to go to bed. but, there are those select few who are more like a babysitter that an educator. I also believe that homework can also discourage students from actually practicing the material and perfecting the skill. This often discouraged me from actually learning the material, and I end up copying the answers out of the back of the book, so that I could get out of the house that day. Homework takes away from vital social time, discourages students from doing the work and learning the material, and is just a way for teachers to cram more information into your head than can be processed. Almost every night it seems like, my little sister, who is in the seventh grade, brings home her backpack that is weighted down with 20 pounds of homework.
