Comparing Hemingway and Fitzgerald style of writting

             Hemingway and Fitzgerald were great writers of their time. Hemingway's stories are about having a proper
             role model to grow up to as you are a child and become, basically giving an image of a proper man, but the
             same goes for the stories for Fitzgerald. Their stories would always have a strong male character in their
             story to set the example like all writers may have, but the way these two writers set it up was unique and that
             is something that will be attempted to be pointed out in the essay. The topic of this paper is indirect
             presentation and how the authors use it. So the thesis is to answer this topic that has been chosen which is
             finding the ways these two writers use indirect presentation to unfold their story, which is the message of
             lost time, and how it is unique to theer style. To prove this main character analysis shall be done, as well as
             finding some sort of symbol in the stories if possible, and the purpose and effect.
             In the story of "A Clean, Well - Lighted Place", the effect it has is that it makes someone who reads it
             realize that it makes the person feel that life is truly short and it is a precious commodity. It also shows the
             way the young act towards the older generation and how they lack total respect, not at all times but at most
             times this is the case. To prove this, one can read the following comment by the young waiter in the story,
             "I wouldn't want to be that old. An old man is a nasty thing."("Clean" 381). this enforces my sub topic of
             how the older generation has no respect for their elders. The purpose of the story is the effect and the effect
             is given by the older waiter finding his life empty and feels he could have done more then he has done in his
             lie, that he could of made his life better and perhaps lived in a more happier state.
