How Women Have Evolved Throughout The CenturyWomen have played many roles in various societies throughout history. She has been a wife, a mother, a farmer, a teacher or a volunteer worker. Most women have combined two or more of these roles together.Throughout the centuries, almost every society has had ideas of what activities are proper for women. Some societies have given women honor, others have considered women less important to men.Today, women in many countries make at least some decisions about what they will do with their lives. In most parts of our world, a woman can now choose whether she wants a career, whether she wants to marry, and whether she wants to raise children. Women around the world are increasingly challenging society's traditional image of what a woman should be allowed to do.Most women married and began raising children soon after reaching fifteen or sixteen years of age. They remained at home, and had little economic or social power. As Christianity spread throughout Europe, women lost most of the freedom they once had under Roman law. The National Organization for Women, also known as NOW, is an American association supporting equality for women. They've shown how powerful they really are and that they don't need a man to survive. In most parts of the world, women are now aloud to vote, attend formal schooling and earn a degree, but most of all, we can think for our selves and have the freedom of speech. A shortage of men resulted in an increase of women beginning to work outside the home. Judging someone on their gender is completely wrong, it's not your physical appearance that should count, what matters most, or should matter most, is the individuals intelligence. Despite all that women have done and are still doing, sex discrimination still lingers on in today's society. During the late 1700's and early 1800's, the Industrial Revolution brought great changes in the lives of people in many countries. Women have been and still are victimized in many ways. Some of the first organized attempts to improve women's status took place in the United States of America. During the 1840's, married women led a campaign entitling them the right to own real estate under their own name. congress in 1942, for noncombatant duty in World War 2. It also campaigns to increase the number of women holding office at local, state, and national levels. In 1841 Oberlin College in Oberlin Ohio, became the first college in the country to award degrees to women. Women back then were considered as nothing but prize possessions - the more you had only made you stronger and more powerful. NOW contains more than six-hundred locals throughout fifty states and the District of Columbia, and also has a membership of about 250 000 women and men.
