The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby is an epic novel about the desires, dreams, and Desperations of one man. It shows the struggle that a man goes through to achieve his goal, and how it eventually leads to his demise. Gatsby was a man who desired to be accepted by the upper class and prestigious in society, and he had to overcome many obstacles throughout his life to reach his goals. Gatsby had the dream since he was a young man. A dream to rise above his ascribed status and achieve one of an elite member of society. As Gatsby's dad tells Nick Carraway, "Jimmy (Jay) was bound to get ahead. He always had some resolves like this or something. Do you notice what he's got about improving his mind? He was always great for that. He told me that I et like a hog once and I beat him for it." When Gatsby was a young man he met Dan Cody, a yachter, who showed Gatsby how to be a gentlemen. The interesting thing was that Cody was a crook, but he gave people the impression that he was a gentleman. So he showed Gatsby ways to deceive people into believing that he was a gentleman when in actuality he was just another liar. Gatsby later met the love of his life, Daisy; which helped in his decision to strive to be a member of

Daisy was driving Gatsby's car when she accidentally ran over Tom's mistress, Myrtle, and kept driving. Gatsby's dream looked like it would actually come true. All of the hard work to become rich from the longing to be with Daisy was finally paying off. " After Daisy left, Daisy married Tom Buchanon, who also came from a rich family. Nick Carraway, Daisy's cousin, moved next door to Gatsby. He asked Nick if he could invite Daisy to Nick's house for tea and not let her know that he was coming. He was like a ghost appearing out of thin air, because she hadn't seen him in so long, even though he was living right across the bay from her. Because of Daisy's status in society and that she is a woman, nothing would have happened to her if she would have taken the blame for the accident. Some time passes and Daisy and Gatsby end up driving together one night. She didn't know that he was poor, but that didn't matter to Gatsby, because he believed that they were in love. Gatsby met her when he was a soldier stationed in her town!. ------------------------------------------------------------------------**Bibliography**. When Gatsby left, Daisy easily got over him. He did this by becoming a gambler and a bootlegger.
