second world war

The Second World War-A Complete History was the book chosen for this review. It was published in 1989 by Martin Gilbert. Martin Gilbert was a distinguished Britain historian. He graduated Magdalen College, Oxford. In 1960, he received a first class honor degree in modern history. For two years, he was a research scholar at St. Anthony's College, Oxford. He was elected in 1962 to a fellowship at Merton College, Oxford. He worked with Randolph Churchill on the biography of Sir Winton Churchill. He did 20 years of research on Churchill. He wrote Never Despair. He also wrote The Holocaust and Auschwitz and the Allies. This book was chosen for the review because of the historical and detail facts that were given during World War II. It was also chosen because of the many visual aids in the book to make it easier to comprehend. It presents massive amounts of detailing, map outlines of the war, and pictorials to help fully understand why the war was fought.Martin Gilbert's direction in the book, The Second World War, was to inform the reader of the events that took place during WWII as well as inform them on its conclusion. He explained the strategies of the five super powers and the different wars pertai

Part of Hitler's plan was to gain control of Russia's oil fields, which would be a great victory for Hitler's army, and would only help him in achieving Barbarossa. Gilbert asserted; "Deception had played its part to the end, Ultra having revealed in detail just who needed to be deceived, now revealed that the deception had been successful. The war between the two countries was described as a series of naval battles in which the U. Britain posed a problem by fighting against these forces in Northern Africa. There was much discussion about Stalin's strategic dilemmas and how Russia would have to overcome Hitler and the Nazis. Britain also focused on controlling land in Europe after Hitler's army had run them out. By reading The Second World War, one will learn that Germany was not the only country who mistreated prisoners of war and innocent civilians. Gilbert even went as far as to quote numerous historical leaders such as Hitler, Mussolini, Roosevelt, and Stalin. His use of the facts show courage by soldiers but also the struggle of life by having to deal with poverty, torture, death and all other effects of the war. There were more chapters in the book, which gave freedom for each one to be less broad and hit the topic of each chapter more distinctively. All of the events were an accurate description of what happened in the war. A total of almost 70 nations were involved in the conflict in varying degree. The S!econd World War was historical facts in chronological order from the opening to the closing of WWII supported by numerous dates, maps, and pictures. Strategies of Mussolini's role in the war were also discussed in detail.
