European Politics
Throughout the past centuries, much of our world's nations have converted from various types of governments to a democracy of some kind. Of all of the countries that have switched to this type of government, none have found this form of government to be undesirable. What is it that makes Democracy so impressive? The answer to this question is both obvious and abstract. In many ways understanding Democracy is easily explained, yet it is also very complex due to the fact that every nation has a different way of running their democratic nation. Over the past eighteen weeks we have discussed four European Countries that are all Democratic. All four of these countries, Britain, France, Germany and Italy, are considered to be successful, and have all been newly united under the European Union. Although all four of the countries are considered successful, they all have their individual strengths and weaknesses, proving that each Democracy as individualistic. In the following pages I will discuss the differences in each of our four countries focusing on how they compare to one another on the basis of accountability, efficiency, effectiveness, and their individual democracies as a whole.
The French consumption of wine has decreased significantly over the past few years. Due to this, France loses a lot of its effect. This system seems to work well in Britain, but I think that they are bound to run into some troubles. This is more than many other countries can say. As written so far, it sounds like France would be the most efficient government of these four European nations, but why did I put them in second place? Over the past decade, France has lost a lot of its economic stability because of joining the EU. The main reason that I have place France last on Democracy is because of the fact that there is a concern for France in the near future, and it is already beginning to take place. Although I am putting Italy so far down on my list, they are by no means an unaccountable government. As long as the British people remain in tune with their love for tradition, the United Kingdom will remain one of the role models for the rest of Europe. Over the past decade or so, the Italian government has done many great things. Italy is my third most accountable nation, but if I could, I would have tied them at second place with Britain. To emplify this, I considered each individual country's current Welfare State, and their civil rights policies. It seems to me that the French government is quite a ways behind other countries in this aspect of life. The reason I have placed England last in this category is because of their hesitation to join the European Union. Germany has come a long way in the last decade, and their interest rates show that they are doing it quite effectively. It has gradually earned the respect of its citizens, and has decreased the national debt by leaps and bounds.
