Team Player

             The term "team player" can be perceived very simply as it is defined in a dictionary. It also may be used to describe or define various things that the dictionary definition would not lead you to believe it may be used on.
             Here are the two terms, as you would learn them from a dictionary. Team as the Webster's New World Dictionary formally defines it is a group of people working together in a coordinated effort. It defines a player as a person who plays a game. So combined it would mean a player of a game who is working together with others.
             The dictionary definitions are very different than what you might hear if you asked someone in society. They might tell you it is someone who goes above and beyond what the call of duty asks them to do. Someone else might tell you it is someone who is dedicated and loyal to the task at hand with the good of the whole for which they are working for in mind. All of these are acceptable and normal definitions of what you might hear from a given person.
             The definitions not only apply to sports but also to other things in life. In football if one player does not get his job done then others can't do their job effectively. For instance if a team sets up for a field goal in the closing seconds of a game to win and the long snapper throws the ball over the holders head then there is no way that the kicker will be able to kick the ball. These same principles apply to what large corporations are built on. For example if a mail boy does not do his job correctly and looses an important bill and it does not get to the right place then a company can loose the respect and the business of an important company which it relies on. Even in business and other factions of life does the role of a "team player" come into play.
