W.E.B. Du Bois: The Souls of Black Folk; Essays and Sketches

William Edward Burghardt Du Bois, born a free black man on February 23, 1868, in Great Barrington, Mass. three years after the Civil War. His father (white man) died shortly after he was born. His belief that the depression dictated a shift from the organization, stressing on legal rights and integration to now emphasizing on the black economic advancement, even if it meant 'accepting' temporarily segregation.
