Reliant Vs. Astrodome

             In the city of Houston, the interest in the world of sports has grown to tremendous heights over the recent years due to winning teams, new teams, and new sports facilities. Among these new facilities is the new Reliant Stadium, which is home to the fairly new Houston Texans football team. Not long ago, things were much different. Instead of the Reliant Stadium, we had the Astrodome. Instead of the Houston Texans, we had the Houston Oilers. Both very capable football teams in 2 totally different arenas. The difference between "the Dome" and Reliant Stadium can go anywhere from the structure of the 2 different building to the technology from then to now.
             Named the Eighth Wonder of the World when it opened in 1965 as the "Harris County Domed Stadium", Houston's Astrodome was the world's first large indoor venue. It was equipped with 45,000 seats over 5 levels of seating for a major-league field sport. Not only did this dome hold baseball games, but football games and the rodeo as well. The man behind the creation was Judge Roy Hofheinz, who had a very uxorious apartment built within the dome where he resided. The Dome was built near Colt Stadium, first home of the Astros in their three seasons as the Colt .45s. The main purpose for the dome structure was for more inner space, but more importantly, to spare players and fans from the sweltering. The dome, constructed from 4,796 clear plastic roof panes, allowed direct sunlight for grass to grow. But during the day , bright Texas sun blinded fielders trying to catch fly balls, so many of the roof panels were painted white to soften the glare. Its 660'-wide round roof was the world's largest self-supporting dome when built, and its many large restaurants and lounges were unmatched in existing stadiums.
